My name is Sarah and I just created a post about a project I'm doing for grad school. Besides wanting new voices for my project, I'm always up for meeting cool women with disabilities. I have CP and use a wheelchair. Although I'm active in my campus community, my friends with disabilities (although I love them beyond words) don't care much to discuss disability-related stuff. I certainly like to chat about other topics too, but I would love to find more people who are passionate about disability issues and change. I'm not only disabled but an Indian (from Calcutta) who is a lesbian so I have many cards in my colorful deck! I have a serious love affair with music and poetry. Let me know what you are in love with...
Nice to meet you. I'm in love with my beautiful daughters Being a parent is one of the best things that has happened to me. Most of my passion for disability issues is mostly related to both of my children who have developmental delays. It's been amazing to watch their progress with therapy and I'm happy to say that one of my daughters is going to be finished with the IEP process early in the next school year. My older daughter continues to struggle with various things but is beginning to realize what she needs to do to overcome. She is so smart and determined. My life is also impacted - positively and negatively - by bipolar disorder and PTSD.
Like you, I'm a student, but on a hiatus. I became clinically exhausted by trying to meet my kids needs and handle med changes after my diagnosis and simply could not manage. I'm hoping to start school again sometime in the next school year. When I graduate, my dream is to go on to grad school and study Audiology. I'm not sure if that will happen, and if it doesn't I'm okay with that. My life will still be beautiful.
Welcome to GimpGirl, Sarah! It is great to see more artistically-inclined women join in! I am personally in love with drawing, in addition to my passion for this community, though I don't get to drawing nearly as much as I'd like. We are currently developing an art gallery on Second Life, including poetry, traditional "flat" media (drawing, painting, etc.) and 3D sculpture. So, thanks for the introduction!
